I've got the same idling behavior for the past 3 months now. Never happens on 1st start-up, but subsequent starts leads to similar idling behavior.

I'm rolling up to 100k, hoping to replace my plugs this week. I'll keep you posted if it fixes my issue.

Please do, It's like chasing a ghost. I am starting to wonder if it is a coil pack going bad. The only thing that is bugging me is that it doesn't throw any codes.

Ok, I had the plugs replaced this morning.

Good news:
  • Erratic idling appears to have stopped when parked
  • No more issues with restarting the car after a brief stop (e.g. filling up the gas tank)

The bad news: the shop forgot to reset my replace spark-plugs warning indicator on the iDrive.

Thanks for the update. Looks like I will be changing plugs soon. Can you not reset the plug indicator yourself?

Yes, you can it's actually very easy - I found the diy yesterday from the forum, https://5series.net/forums/topic/177...8#entry1464948

Thanks for the info mrfva. I changed the plugs ( will post pics of plugs, not bad but not real good either), reset idrive, and have ran it for about 1/2 tanks worth of gas. So far it appears that it was a plug issue. Thanks again for all of the help.

I just had my plugs changed along with 2 coil packs few weeks ago it got rid of the misfiring issue but it still doesn't idle right. Any suggestions?
I was thinking I should try and clean the MAF sensor but what technique should I use?

I Seafoamed my 545i, I used the central entry point right above the intake, looks like a T-section of plastic tubing. I've read that you're supposed to do this while the car is running, but I did it while mine was off. Started it up and boy did the exhaust put out some nasty looking smoke, quick drive around the block and it went away.

Anyone else use this method with Seafoam? I read somewhere else about this technique so I thought I'd try it out, no issues.
