Go with the G35. I had purchased an 06 G35 fully loaded back in 07 while waiting for my previous bimmer to be totalled out. Wonderful car. I miss the power, tones and comfort it delivered. I bought it from a wholesale dealer at a good price and sold it a few months later for a great price. It was more enjoyable than the rental from insurance company and I made out.
Infiniti all the way.

If someone offered me a FX35 right now with same mileage as mine and good condition, i'd surely trade even as long as it's an 04-06.

An N62B44 4.4 V8 isn't exactly Prius-like with fuel. You'll average around 20-22 if you drive conservatively. Run from that 545 - especially if the owner is admittingly dumping it because of high operating costs!

G35 man, I'm in college and I purchased a 545i and the coolant is leaking right now, I already had a problem with the active steering, I'm just hoping nothing else goes wrong. I don't regret buying it or anything just wish I would've waited a bit.

The E39 is a mature platform, arguably amongst the best (if not the best) in many eyes. There are far less electronic failure points. But, it's still a V8 stuffed in the engine bay, and that means tighter workspaces, more weight (and more wear and tear on the front end), and higher repair and operating costs than the straight six options (E39 525, 530). If you absolutely must have a high-powered car (and can afford the associated high-powered insurance premium you are going to be hit with being a 17 y/o in a HiPo car), a well-taken cared of E39 wouldn't be a bad choice. Even still, I'd suggest the Infinity - chances are, many more of your peers will be driving/familiar with that platform than the E60/E39.

I have both. The G35 typically gets about 21 mpg and the 545i gets 19. The G35 has been nothing but reliable, whereas the 545i has had the usual problems documented here and in other forums. If you want reliability, get the G35 (seems to be the unanimous opinion). But the 545i is sooo much more fun to drive.
