2004 545i no audio after window tint
I don't think this issue is related to the window tint. I think it's just bad timing from whatever component in the car is malfunctioning. Or maybe it is cause of the tint. I have no audio coming from the speakers. No door chimes, PDC warnings, and no music at all. The timer on the songs playing from the cd is still going to show that it's playing but no sound at all. I also can't select any cd's from the cd changed cause they text is all gray. No am or fm radio either.
I got into the car and heard some crackling and static noise just after I picked it up and no audio at all. Could this be related to the tint job? I disconnected the battery multiple times, disconnected the amp and everything else and put it all back together. There's no water anywhere in the trunk. We took apart the entire rear of the car and it's completely dry. The only error message I get on the iDrive is for "SOS call system malfunction". I don't know what it's for because I don't have the phone hooked up but I do have voice command which doesn't work either. I did some googling and found issues related to the MPM. I need this fixed soon because I have a 20 hour road trip coming up and I can't be without music. Is this a DIY fix? Or at least a DIY diagnose? I'd hate to be overcharged at the dealer for a simple fix. I saw MPM's for sale online for around $200. Thank you. |
Where in Nebraska are you located?
The SOS malfunction usually related to a broken fiber optic loop ... there's a jumper junction by the rear left shock tower ... the fiber link ties to various other stuff like iDrive the stereo system TCU etc. If the CDC option greyed out you may want to check the CD Changer in the back of the glove compartment which also ties to the fiber optic link ... the fact that option greyed out it may indicate the fiber plug maybe un-plugged or loose or broken (either the link or the CDC). I'm in Lincoln.

i'd ask the tint guys if they removed any panels.

I know some window tint guys use a lot of water and that runs down inside the door panel and can lead to electrical problems .

Your amp is located right below your rear window on the left side. If they did use too much water, which has happened to my friends ride, the water will run down the back underneath the back deck and down the side support which your amp is mounted too. If you go back to the tint guy and tell him your radio is now not working they will probably have that look of "oh shi*!". |
I told him as soon as I found out which was about 2 minutes after I picked up the car. The tint guy and I spent 3 hours last night tearing apart the trunk and back seat to find anything wet and nothing was wet anywhere. It was completely dry back there. MPM looks to be in good condition. I even went to a friend who has an 04 530i and switched his MPM into my car and it still doesn't work.
I'm really starting to think its the amplifier. |
But water could still be inside someplace you can't see though.

I'm getting it scanned at an independent BMW mechanic in town here. I'll update with the news when I find out!

Had it scanned today. The amp and the TCU both went bad. Indie told me I can get a new amp and hook it up and he will bypass the TCU and get my sound back.
