Hello Everybody, I recently purchased a 2004 545i. It came quite stocked up with goodies but lacked a CD Changer. I ordered a changer thru' the dealer here Edmonton, AB. It seems that they have been able to install the unit just fine, but are having difficulties in programming the car to accept this new device. Its a 2008 model CD Changer.
Would anybody have an idea of what is involved in this programming phase of the car's systems. Second and easy question will the changer play MP3s. Will the head unit do the same after the figure out how to program the car once again ? Thanks for your thoughts and answers in advance.

The glovebox cd changer will not play mp3's and a progman update is required for the in-dash cd changer to play them. I don't know if the update is applicable for '04 model year e60s but I'm sure one of the more savvy forum members will reply.

I think that they will be mounting it in the trunk where its pre-wired, I could ofcourse be mistaken, and find it in the glove compartment. Its now been at the dealership for 2 days today. I hope they figure this out soon. Thanks for your note.

Luigi is correct, the E60 changer goes in the glove box not the trunk. And only the in-dash will play MP3's. For a 2004, you must have Navigation, which means you have the right hardware for MP3 playback..

Okay so called the dealership back they seem to have figured things out and have 15mins and counting down to getting the car updated and ready to go. The changer is mounted in the trunk and not the glove box. Once the update is completed they will be able to tell me if I will be able to play MP3s. Will keep you posted. ![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)

the stock location is the glove box, although there's a fiber loop in the trunk they could connect it to. If it truly is in the trunk, please post pics. oh, and enjoy your new ride. ![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)

it will only play MP3 if you have a NAV. Otherwise you need to change CCC unit which is quite expensive (several K's)

Is there a DIY to change the CCC for 04-05 e60 w/out Nav for MP3 capabilities? Or do you the units/components that will need to be changed? Do i have to change out my CD play for a navigation system (complete) or can i just swap in an 06+ CD player for Mp3?
