I'm the original owner of an '05 545, 45K miles. Only issues have been failed windshield washer pump, and occasional transmission bump. Other than that, nothing significant. Used almost exclusively for highway driving, which has given never less than 26 MPG, and once over 29. Good to be cautious when buying these cars used, but I think that you can see from the many threads here that there's a lot of enthusiasm for them. This forum is terrific for DIY help. I replaced the battery myself with the recommended $95 Autozone, saving a fortune. Washer pump was $20 aftermarket supplier, but OEM. The 545 is an outstanding ride that still looks stylish. Other than another V8 5-series, I wouldn't know what else to buy that was such a pleasure to drive.

My 545i has less than 80k and I've had gone through a lot work on it. Still a great car and fun to drive, but every time the service light comes on I want to leave it on the side of the road.

I have owned my '04 545 since it had 21000 miles on it in '07. It now has 53,000 miles. what I have done: replaced all the rubber seals. Replaced battery. I found that the 545i's and 550s have issues with the rubber seals. My guys say it's mostly the 8 cylinder issue. Hated the run flat tires, tho they did make the car handle better. The rims are a lite metal and crack in the potholes of Los Angeles.
The interiors are made cheaply, but I do love my seats. Those low bumpers and side pieces drive me crazy. They have come off entering a driveway. Note: too big to fit in car with another person.
I won't take this to the snow.
I get 14 mpg. Tires wear fast on these cars.
I can't think of another car I would get that would please me as much.
