Wait... you have an 04 545 with 34k????? You either have the shortest commute or dont drive it! I am near 76k on my '04, but now I do almost 100 miles per day.

Sounds as if something isn't quite right. My 545i, on a 200 mile stretch of I5, averaged 29 mpg. That was on cruise control at 80 MPH! Awesome engine! It's an '05 with only 28K.

Yeah... maybe my math! I will double check my numbers. Not too worried as the car is smooth as can be.

Yup - 8 mile commute to work and I don't take her out of the state

Oh - and I get 14-15 miles in the city.
As you can figure I don't drive on the freeway very much

That was pretty much my reaction when I met him to work on his car. It was a "whoaaaa" moment. Lucky guy lives super close to work.

Then again, I guess my commute now is less than 8 miles to work, just that I drive everywhere in my E60. Should probably take my other car, but it's just so hard... lol.

Maybe I am lucky because I get to enjoy my 545i for 100 miles a day??? Although, I would gladly trade that for half the miles and longer life! As you stated, I take my other car (a built up Jeep) in the winter and as much as I love it, its not my E60!

you people getting 14 mpg on average on your 545i must be a big fan of the red line.

ok, some other things to look for:

Tension arms will need to be changed at about 70k miles
Control arms will need to inpected at same time, possible replacement
transmission will need to be serviced, pan/filter is one piece, replaced if it is leaking.
Figure on a alternator around 85k miles
Battery every three years, it is probably due if it wasn't replaced in the last two years
look for valve cover seals by 85-90k miles
Tires (rear)look for excessive wear on the inside (camber)
Brakes, 545's have soft brake pads from the dealer, and the rotors are soft, look for last complete brake service, also look for rotor warping on fronts

Hope that helps.
