Being new to the BMW world I must thank all of you for taking your time to answering my questions. Now that the fuel consumption question has been thoroughly answered my world of choices and indecision has grown slightly larger.
I am looking at one of two excellent vehicles. A used 2004 545 loaded or a brand spankin new 2006 530 loaded?
Your thoughts please.

My 3/04 build 545i had a strange sunroof noise when closing from the tilt position and the software bugs oft reported (CD always played from Track 1 after restarting) but one trip to the dealer and 7000 miles later not a single hiccup.

Hard to say what the new 530 higher HP engine will be like.
Should be pretty nice, I thought the 530 was a bit more agile then the 545.
But the 545's V8 power won me over and I never looked back .
I don't drive my car that hard ( well most of the time ) but when I want to murge on a freeway that V8 is well worth every extra cent.
Hard to beat the extra 100 HP.
My mileage averages 15 MPG in busy stop and go city, and mid twenties on the freeway.
I have a 06/04 build no problems at all to date, knock on wood.
It seems to me the new E60 with all of it's new technology and complete redesign has had a very smooth release with few problems, though some may say differant.
