2004 530I or 2004 545I??
#1
Hey guys i either want to get an 04 530 or 04 545 and i was wondering if u guys could help me decide. I hear the 530's are pretty slow so thats why i was thinking of the 545 but then someone told me the 545 gives more problems for the 2004 year. I know its the first year they came out, but i hear the 545 has more problems and even though their both going to be under factory warranty because im buying both used at about 35k miles i dont want the hassle of keep going to the dealer or buying small parts for it. Let me know what u guys think.
thx comrades.

I don't think there's any big difference between the two as far as problems are concerned. If you're interested in some of the high-tech things like bluetooth, you may want to determine the build dates (on the driver's door jamb) and let that help you decide.

As far as 2004 goes I have heard of problems from both the 530i's and 545i's. As Rudy said, I don't think one 'trim' will be significantly more problematic than another. However, don't think that a Bimmer will be a stress free car. The 530i really isn't too slow but if you are looking for that extra power, the 545i is worth it. Good luck.

In my eyes the 545i is the way to go. There is no substitute for the extra power when needed.

"pretty slow" unless you are a street racer I don`t think it will matter that much.
But if you are a fast driver then the 545i with super charger

It depends on what you value. Both are fine engines. I highly recommend the 545 with Nav. My 545 has been problem free and a wonderful car to drive. Gas mileage is better with the 530.

If you have the funds, no doubt, go for the 545 (not that there is anything 'wrong' with a 530).

Ya know, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the 530 "isn't too slow" comment... I was given an 07 530 as a service loaner and it was a pig compared to my 05 545... that's just my opinion, it was just a lot slower when I punched it. I'm used to a lot more go.
Personally, I'd go with the 545.

I havent researched; however, I suspect the 545 will have better resale too!
