There are no local, only out of state dealers, so continuing my search I came across Pentosin which is German manufactured and meets/exceeds OE requirements and I can purchase locally as well.

Anyone here have experience with Pentosin?

I was playing with my iDrive yesterday, learning how to reset my clock after the time change, and found the "service" screen. It indicates that the oil change is past due, I made an ass of myself assuming that the dealer I purchased the car from had performed a oil change, yet they could (should have) changed the oil and did not reset the service light. Is the service indicator automatically reset or is it done manually via the iDrive?

I have never owned such a confusing car as I still cannot figure out how to raise/lower the head rest/restraints even after going over and over the owners manual.
If you don't have local access to a dealer, then using any high quality synthetic oil that is BMW LL-01 approved will work (Mobil1, Castrol Syntec, yadda yadda).

resetting the oil service reminder is done manually through the gauge cluster.

I was successful resetting the oil service from red to green yet I still have that GD service triangle, you know the one that resembles the "report post" image.

All of my service check list are green so what am I doing wrong?

Service triangle turned out to be a low coolant reservoir and after refilling and driving it is gone. Regarding the engine oil brand to use I found out what BMW recommends for my specific make/model/year......Castrol.

Been a while so howdy all!

Finally changed the oil and oil filter today. Purchased the car with 86.4K miles and turned 93K miles yesterday before I had it serviced today but I frequently checked the filter and the oil (smell and color from decades of experience) so no worries. Went with a Mann filter and Mobil 1 full synthetic in 5W-30, $77 out the door. She always purred like a kitten but now the kittens belly is full so the purring is even more noticeable. Good times.

You should investigate why you went low on coolant. Their could be something beginning to fail.

Topping off the reservoir has proven to be a fix. The car is just a disposable lump that will get me back into a real sports car when/if she blows her top.

HAHAHAHA MINE AS WELL^ But I'm thinking about keeping her and then getting a vette. I have no problems with the oil. Today will be the first time I have to top off my oil. I'm assuming it's because I need a new valve cover gasket. So It's probably leaking there little by little. Plus I've been pushing my car lately. My coolant is leaking some where as well. Today will also be the 2nd time i've had to top the coolant off. I'm at 130,000 so I'm pretty sure the hoses, thermostat, as well as a coolant flush is needed. These aren't big problems just an easy fix. The problem I have is that I have irregular rpms during acceleration. I just recently changed my DISA and it didn't really help at all. Next I'm going to get all new ignition coils and new knock sensors. If that doesn't fix it then Last i'll do is change the transmission filter and fluid flush. After all this and it still doesn't solve the problem then I'm going to have to trade it in and add some cash on top of it for a vette. If all is well with it then i'll get the vette later when my investments grown enough to pay for it.
