Hi all,

I have a 2004 525i, and when I first purchased it I thought it had a 184hp engine, but lately I've been told that it is actually 215. I have tried to search on Google for the 2004 model but I still can't find a true answer because one website says 215hp and another says 225hp. I believe the 2007 is 225.

So anyone have any idea what's the true horsepower for a 2004 525i?

There certainly was a 525i with 184bhp early on...
Engine code was M54B25 and it was in the E60 in 04/05. It is the engine carried over from the old E39.
See... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M54#M54B25

Later they changed to the new N52B25 engine (I think this was around 05/06)

Yes it's US. Why is it so low? Not that I'm complaining, it's still a fast car

Yep, kinda sad when my 2000 Jeep Wrangler has more "oomph" than a 2004 bimmer. I think it's a little low too for a $50K car, but still quick.

The easy way to check if you have the 184hp or 215hp engine is to open the bonnet and look at the engine. If you look at the engine cover the 184hp is all black and the 215hp has a large silver and black cover.
See pictures.
