Default 200,000 miles on a 545i

10 years ago today I bought my 2005 545i. Last August while on a 2,500 mile road trip from Texas to North Carolina I hit the 200,000 mile mark.
I bought the car used with a Certified Pre Owned warranty from the BMW dealer in Austin, Texas.

Here is some information about the car:
  • Purchased 02/23/2007 - Mileage 23,661
  • 6 year/100,000 certified pre owned warranty
  • 6 year/100,000 maintenance plan
  • No after-market products installed (i.e. Sprint Booster, CAI, Wheels, Exhaust, etc.)
  • Clutch – Original
  • Transmission – Original
  • Catalytic Converters - Original
  • Front and Rear Shocks/Struts/Springs – Original
  • Oil Consumption – 1 quart in 5,000 miles.
  • Daily Driver – 50 miles round-trip to work and back.
  • Parked outdoors at work Monday through Friday
  • Parked in a garage at home
  • Car has never been towed for mechanical reasons (Once after an accident)
  • January 2015 the car was hit on the right rear wheel by a guy who did not yield at a stop sign. The car was totaled but I repaired it.
  • Car has never failed to start
  • In 2016 the average gas mileage was 20.4 mpg on 23,600 miles, mostly suburban driving.
Some Repair/Maintenance Items
  • 75,300 – Replace Alternator
  • 88,000 – Replace Battery
  • 98,500 – Replaced Original Spark plugs
  • 105,300 – Replace Original Front Control Arms
  • 105,300 – Replace Alternator Bracket Oil Seal
  • 115,300 – Replace Air Conditioner
  • 141,500 – Replace Coils #5 and #8
  • 147,900 – Replace Alternator
  • 155,400 – Replace Valve Cover Gasket
  • 155,400 – Replace Timing Cover Gasket
  • 155,400 – Replace Battery
  • 155,400 – Replace Right Front Headlight
  • 165,310 – Replace Coil #6
  • 175,000 – Replace Front Control Arm Bushings
  • 175,000 – Replace Original Radiator
  • 177,500 – Replace Left Low Beam Head Light
  • 186,100 – Replace Left Rear Tail Light Assembly
  • 186,100 – Replace Heater Valve
  • 186,100 – Replace Water Valley Pipe
  • 186,100 – Replace Water Expansion Tank
  • 192,000 – Replace Original Water Pump
  • 198,600 – Replace Spark Plugs

The car still looks good and runs well. How long will I keep it? I don't know but I still enjoy driving it.

Awesome info here. Thanks for sharing. Nice to know some people are pushing their V8's mileage, i hope to do the same 125,000 miles on mine. I'd say its been pretty reliable, but i've only had it for a year.

That's pretty awesome really, nice to hear something good 'reliability wise' of the N62 engine other than your alternator..LOL, BUT THEN AGAIN the water pump at 192K made more then up for that....

Brian, great story. It's nice to see a positive N62 story, as silly as that may sound. I'm at 125k and aiming for 200k myself.

You mentioned you have your original catalytic converters, but out of curiosity, have you changed the O2 sensors? (I guess BMW calls them lambda sensors)

I think that this is a 6-speed manual - OP mentioned original clutch. BTW, I have close to 200K miles (330K kms) on my '05 545 6MTand I have changed the oil in the manual transmission at about 120k miles.
