Hi

Ive been wanting to upgrade the standard 18" alloys (m136?) on my 525d M Sport.

The runflats are OK but I dont fancy the ?250 per tyre replacement (touch wood none yet) and with the fact Ill be towing my Skyline over summer the runflats need to go.

So the main question is.................

What size 20" alloys will fit the E60 525d M Sport? Ans what offsets are needed?

Ive just been offered a nice set of Lowenhart LC1s but I need to no if they will fit? Only info on them at the mo is that they are possibly 20x10 allround.

Thanks Baz

20 X 10" up front won't work without rubbing either the strut, fender or both. The rears would be ok depending on the offsets & tire size.

Are your current rims 135's? What are the Lowenhart offsets?

Use this to calculate your new offsets:

Im not sure on the model number of the current alloys, I think the other name given to them in the UK is M Sport double spokes.
They are wearing 245 section tyres allround from memory.

I dont no what the offsets are for the Lowenharts. They are been refurb'd at the mo so cant get all the info.

As per my question(s) I wanted to no what will fit giving width and offset.

So you cant go wider than 9.0 up front, Im guessing 245 section tyres.
And you can go up 10.5 on the rear, maybe 285? section tyres!

It is the offset which I realy need to no now, only info I have found upto now was ET15 for front and ET20 for rear.

Surely one of you guys in America can give me the info.

Thanks Baz

285's on a 10.5" tire look terrible. The 10.5" is more suitable for a 305 or thereabouts. A 285 tire will be stretched, leaving a lot of rim exposed for the curbs. I'd try to get it in OEM range. If you want staggered, go 8.5" F and 9.5" R. You can do 9" F and 10" rear if you need to.

The offsets depend on the width of the rim. If you do 19" staggered 172's, for example, the offsets are ET18 F and ET32 rear. However, you can push these out a bit both front and back with spacers. I know the rears can take 12mm spacers, effectively giving you an ET20 in the rear...the lowest you could go without rubbing, on OEM sized 275's. I think the fronts can use 10mm spacers to get you to ET8.

Once you know your limits on something like the 172 rim above, you can use that offset calculator link to compare everything else to it. Like I said, a wider rim requires different offsets to get things to work. So, try that link and compare after-market sizes and offsets with the OEM ones.
