I unfortunately hit a very deap pothole the other night - it caused an immediate cut in both my front and rear passanger side tyres. I stopped immediately and got out of the car to hear both tyres hissing away loosing air rapidly.

There was no Idrive message about the tyres loosing pressure nor was there any puncture message. When the 2 space saver spare wheels were put on (used on from my wifes 530d - the benefit of having 2 x E60s ) there was no message about the space saver being on either.

When ever I have had punctures in the past I definately recall such Idrive messages on both when the tyres lost pressure and when the Space Saver was put on.

Anyone know the reason why there were no Idrive warnings this time? I recently had the front brakes and discs replaced could they have forgotten to attach some kind of sensor?? I also had the Idrive firmware updated to the latest version - could this be the culprit?

Any help appreciated as the dealer hasnt got a clue as to why there was no messages?

Sounds more like a monitoring system issue if two blown tires didn't trigger the iDrive warning. I think the pre and LCI models use different types of tire monitoring systems/sensors. Hopefully somebody else can chime in.

Either FTM (or it's ABS sensors) has a problem or because there are a matched set of two tires/tyres it doesn't think there is a problem.

As I understand with FTM,it does not respond to an immediate loss of pressure, why should it ,you already know! The handbook also states that FTM does not function when a space saver spare wheel is fitted.

is the space saver the same diameter as the original wheels? if so, then it wont be detected.
and as for the flat tire monitor, it senses a change in wheel speed only if the steering wheel is straight, and the car is at speed for a ways.
