My Ride: 2008 Silverstone II E60 M5 2012 E70 AW X5 50i Sport w/ LCI Aero Kit and Rocker Panels
Default

I have a 2007 530Xi w/ Sport pack. I opted for the 18x8 (Style 123) wheels, running 245/40/18 at all 4 corners.

However, I want to make these my winter wheels and upgrade to 19's for summer. I am considering the E60 M5 (Style 166) wheels. I was thinking of running 19x8.5 at all 4 corners with 245/35/19.

The main issue I am having is that I am getting so many mixed messages from sellers as to the correct offset. Because I have the Xdrive system, it seems to throw people through a loop. One person quoted a 15-20mm offset, while others said 38-40mm. When I used 1010tires.com, the offset calculator told me that using a 38-40mm offset would push my wheels into the wells almost an inch. Now I know that is something I definitely do not want. However, that was comparing it to what I assumed was the correct size of my stock wheels ( 18x8 and 20mm offset). Problem is, I'm not sure if 20mm is the correct offset on my current set of 18's as it stands. I believe it is the correct offset for a standard 530i, but not sure about the 530Xi. And of course, BMW doesn't tell you. Arghh!!!

Can anyone help me please!!! I want to order these new wheels, but need to make sure they are the correct offset. Once I mount tires and put them on the car, I can't return them, so it needs to be right.

Do I want a 15-20mm offset for all 4 corners or do I want 38-40mm offset for all 4 corners? Or am I completely off, altogether???

Appreciate any and all responses!

I'm going through the same thing with my 530XI. The dealer is no help and I've been researching this for about three weeks. What I've learned so far is that you should not put 19's on an XI. The 8X18's for the front and rear are supposed to have a 43mm offset. If you go with 9X18's for the rear they are supposed to have a 55mm offset. with 275/35 tires. The front tires are 245/40. The lower profile for the rear is for the extra clearance needed with the wider tires. I've found BMW wheels at BMWWHEELS.com for a lot less than the dealer is quoting and they seem to be pretty good as far as knowledge. I'd be interested if the 19's can work....If you look at the accessory catalog for the 5 series it shows the wheels available and all of the 19's have a note (not for XI).

Thanks for the info.. However, I'm not even looking to do a staggered set up. I will do the same size all the way around. Is that still an issue?

I was recently told that the 3 series offset is what you need for the 530xi. That sound right to anyone else?

After reviewing TireRack, all 19inch wheels I selected must have an offset of 40+. I'm going to call them and see what they say. This is annoying...

you need the higher offset for the x drive 5. around the 40 mark, which in turn, is about the 3 series offset.

around the 20's for the standard 5 and around the 40 for the x-drive ones

Any idea what the offset is on the current 18x8 wheels on a 530xi?
