Have any of you guys installed spacers for the 172M rims found on the 550i MSport? I've done searches on two forums, both of which resulting in multiple answers.

Does any one know how much I can push the tires out on the stock suspension?

well i have 166 wheels with a 28 offset in the rear, with 12mm spacers, and it looks pretty good with no rubbing.
the 172 wheels have a rear offset of 32, so i think you should be able to use a 15mm spacer with no problems.
and both styles are 9.5" wide and in 19" diameter.
hopefully my math is correct.

 

Yes, that does make sense. 15mm spacers are the maximum for the rear if that's the case. I believe the offset for the front wheels are 18. Any idea what the maximum spacer size for that would be?

How do the spacers affect the suspension geometry? Because the cars come standard with the Active Roll Stabilization, the contact patches do not change too much versus a car without roll stabilization. Is there an appreciable loss in cornering capabilities?

 

I just ordered H&R 15mm spacers for the rear to use with the 172M style rims. Turns out a spacers aren't needed in the front. I made some measurements. The front rim is only 3mm away from being flush with the outer fender. By adding a 15mm spacer to the rear, it is now 4mm away from being flush from the outer fender. So in other words, both front and back tires have about a 3-4mm space from being flush. Can't wait to receive them in the mail. Should look great.

I too was considering ordering spacers for my rear tires but i was told by a local mechanic that the spacers cause damage to the rotors/hubs, any truth to this?

 

I have 15mm spacers with 172m. Probably you could put 17.5-18mm, but 20mm will rub.

 

Yes post picture, I too have the same car and wheels and would like to make the rear wheels more flush to the fender. Does anyone know will this affect the handling of the car?

 

Also I heard spacer will affect alignment, true?
