I'm considering getting a set of 18" wheels for my M6 for track events. There seems to be a lot more R compound tire options available in 18's vs 19's, plus prices are cheaper as well.

If anyone knows which brands clear the M5/ M6 calipers in a 18" wheel please let me know. I noticed on Mod Bargains that the 18x9.5 et20 M6 reps says "fits E63 & M6"...but I am waiting for confirmation back from them to make sure. How about VMR's, Forgestars, Avant Garde, etc? Something in that price range would be ideal.

Thanks for any help

I wouldn't go with a heavy cast wheel for a track wheel. I'd look at BBS and Volk for lightweight forged rims that can take a beating. If you're looking to save money see if Enkei makes a lightweight race wheel that would clear. BBS E88 are great track wheels.

What are you considering lightweight?

According to modbargains site, the Vmr's weigh 22.5 for the 18x8.5 and 23.5 for the 18x9.5. That's lighter than the OE M6 wheels I believe.

I'll check out the E88's. I forget which model, but tire rack said some of the BBS wheels in 18's won't clear the calipers

VMR are cheap cast wheels. I wouldn't trust my life and my car to low end cast wheels on a track. If you can afford to own and track a M6 go with a set of forged wheels. There is a reason track cars use forged wheels, not only weight but also strength and safety.

E88 in 18x9 weighs 18.8lbs IIRC. BBS LM-R is another good choice and better if you plan on also driving them on the street

Sorry...can't justify spending 5k+ on a set of track wheels, regardless if I own a M6 or not.

i dont think bbs wheels fit..18's that is, VMR 100% wont

Only have 3 options ...factory 18 M184 , Sport edition from tirerack and The new M3 18's like trinity had, you need 8 7/8 inner barrel, offsets can be stock. the sport edition are 27lbs and work fine and are cheap,

The M3 are the best cause theyre wider, The sport editions are 18x8. So youll need a tall tire like 255/40 etc

Hey ktlocklear. Funny you create this thread. Been looking at the same thing for the 550 and have been puzzled for weeks on what to do...not sure what brakes to go with though.. Joe at Trinity ran 18" 3 series wheels on his e60 m5 over OEM m5 brakes and there are photos and informtion on that here: https://5series.net/forums/topic/113...-track-wheels/

Sweet....thanks. I remember seeing this thread back when he first posted it, but forgot about it. Did he ever post pics up with tires? I never did see any.

Damn...27lbs for the M3 wheels....yikes!

I'm not doubting you, but are you sure VMR's won't fit? Two vendors list M5/M6 in the application chart for VMR 18's.

Mod Bargains:

http://www.modbargains.com/VMR-V710-...ggered-BMW.htm

JleviSW:

http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/Whee...duct_info.html

I emailed both vendors for confirmation, so we'll see what they say.

Alan from Mod Bargains said the 18" M6 reps do fit.....but are on back order with no dates forecasted

ktlocklear -
Not to change subjects, but I noticed in your sig that you are using Hoen Endurance Yellows for your fogs...I just installed a set and love them, the color is better than PIAA's, they're nice and bright, and better than anything else I've tried as far as eBay bulbs. Just curious how long you've had them installed as I'm just trying to get an idea on longevity.

Car looks great BTW!!!
