I'm very used to driving with 18" wheels, but never with run-flat tyres. As a consequence, I'm always nervous of potholes. They're a very quick way to detroy a tyre.

I've read about run-flats making the ride harse, due to the stiff sidewall. I'm hoping that the stiff sidewall will help with potholes. Anyway have experience of this.

Well, like conventional tires, you should always try and avoid big potholes but you should be fine as long as you do that.

I have no wheel damage with the 18" Dunlop run flats even though I have expected some a time or two -- not potholes, though. The kick on the run flats is the noise that a portion of the forum has experienced. OTOH, isn't noise in the tires associated with better performance. It's the old cake have or eat dilemma. :'(

Where I live some potholes are hard to avoid. Narrow roads, drive around a corner to find pothole ahead and oncoming traffic. Can't stop quick enough, and can't drive around it.

Also at night and/or wet roads it's hard to spot some potholes.

And with the fortune we pay in road tax, you'd expect them to be gold plated.

I've hit some good size bumps and no problems yet. Some small potholes, not deep enough to do damage.

Well, fingers crossed that there's something good about the run-flats.

I once had to change a tyre because I banged the wheel enough to bend the rim and deflate the tyre. So bad it couldn't be inflated again. I don't want that when there's no spare.
