I am only getting about 13,000 miles out of the rear tires on my 2008 535XI with the sport 18" staggerd wheels. The inside tread wears out first. The Fronts seem to last about 30,000 miles. Have had the alignment done when the tires were new by dealer and again last month.Dealer says the alignment is right on and the tire wear is normal. Am running Continental DWS's.

What mileage are you members getting on your rears?????

Staggered? Dropped? Either way, alignment shop in your future, if you want to take care of this. Unless you do burnouts on your way to and from work, DWS should last waaaaay more. Also, what tire pressures are you running? Are you rotating the tires correctly?

i'm guessing he has the style 124 staggered wheels.
the inner wear is common on bmws due to the rear negative camber.
you could have the rear tires swapped around at about half way through their life, but will cost you a mounting charge. swap them so that the previous inner tire edge is now the outer tire edge.

You can't swap like that with the Conti DWS setup - they are not symmetric.

I have an Xi on DWS and they aren't wearing down nearly this quick. Unless OP likes the go pedal a little too much, there's something off.

Well, the DWS's can only be rotated side to side, but why bother as they are wearing the same. The dealer showed me what BMW spec was and the spec reading from the alignment machine on my car, both times it was almost right on. I am not very heavy footed and the miles are about 50/50 city and hiway miles. Inside tread is almost gone and outside tread has about 25% left.

I just had the same problem with "excessive negative camber" on the rear tires. I have approx 13,000 miles with the stock Goodyear run flats (18") on my '10 535xit (same size all around, 100% stock suspension). Running on the highway last Friday, I had a blowout on the right rear tire. As a side note, I have hated every minute with the run on flats, but have totally changed my opinion after this. I was able to drive to the next exit and get into a parking lot without any problems whatsoever - I would say "priceless". In any case, the blowout was caused by excessive negative camber on the right rear and the tire with cords showing on the inside - the tire looks absolutely fine from the outside. . Got an alignment - rear right was way out of spec. For note, I have 90% highway miles on the car (use it only on weekends). Finally, replaced both rears with Run on Flats again, despite the cost/ roughness/ etc - I'm converted they are worth the trouble at least to me.

Lesson learned - have the alignment checked often even if you do not have noticeable alignment issues.

DWS should last about 2-3 times the miles, that Goodyear runflats do. If you believe wear ratings, even more.

My last 2 sets had 8K miles on the rear when they were shot...just a fact of life with BMW's.

I had my car aligned twice because they goofed the first time (BMW). Is there any way to force the camber in the opposite direction so that the wheel sits level on the ground? I know BMW says it's within spec but I had the same problem on the old wheels I took off my car. Since then the car has been realigned but I sure hate to have my brand new Michelin's wearing down in another 10k miles.
