Are 18" All-season Tires Available? If so, can they be run flat?
Also, does anyone know how SMG works? Is there a clutch? If not, is shifting by pressing the paddles only? |
Not sure about the 18"s, but maybe this info will shed light on the SMG. I'm just not sure how current it is.
As far as I know, NO CLUTCH. Are the paddles even available in the US? I think it may just be shifting up and down on the shifter. http://www.bmwworld.com/models/config/m3_smg.htm |
COOPS:
#1) I will reseach the tire question for you. #2) The SMG that will be installed on the New 5 Series is the same system used on the Z4, not the M3 that the reply above this one directs you to. The systems are very different. I drove both of them at my local BMW dealer. Here is a link for the SMG used on the Z4: SMG for the Z4 |
ALSO:
Pic of SMG paddles on wheel and shifter in the new 5 Series ! And I would recommend that you read the great article LITSTER posted here: Detailed E60 info |
Since the article is kind of long, I pulled out the SMG section and start a new thread. Here is the link

Thanks so much for this great info.
