Iv'e had my 04 545i for 15months and my second set of new and improved Dunlop RF are noisy and the ride is horible. I cannot help but wonder if the early 545i with sports package are part of the problem.

The good news is I have a great dealer who has assued me not to worry, he will file another Puma case and take care of my car. You have wonder, if this continues at this rate I'll go through 6 or 7 sets of tires before my lease is up.

Would appreciate your comments, hope everyone had a great New Years, Thanks

I think there is a fair chance that the factory 545i set up is at least part of the problem. We shall see given that many now are running non-RFT's and the 550i's are equipped with non-RFT's as I recall.

Its funny you mention this as I am having the same problem. They replaced my original dunlop RFT's with a second set at 16,000 miles, and now I am at 22,000 miles and they are getting noisy again. I have an appointment on wednesday, and hope my dealer will be as receptive as yours. I too am wondering what the problem is... Is it the active steering??? We will have to keep each other posted on new developments.

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets. First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.

Could be the car's caster/camber, but look at the faulty wear pattern on the tread: it follows that asymmetrical tread pattern. And, we haven't heard any howls from Bridgestone RFT owners (well, not wear howls anyway).

I'm still waiting for someone/anyone to define what the second version of the Dunlops consisted of.

Am I correct in assuming that this current set is the allegedly second design??

They're B team tires and they are in over their heads on a 5 sport, but BMW ought to know that...

Cheers, and we're all listening.

Guys, I've noticed reference to Puma before, is this something like your lemon law?

That is great news!
New tires for free.
My car is at just under 10K miles and I am hoping for the noise and rough riding to start, so that I can get new tires for free.
But so far no luck. They are working just fine.

No, Puma is a BMW acronym for a case report on a warranty item (Parts/procedure under manufacturer's assessment???)

It's how BMW keeps score on warranty items.

Thanks for the replies, yea my second set is "the new design" which I was told was quieter. I am assuming that if i have this problem with the revised tires then there are others out there with similar complaints. Hopefully the dealer can resolve the problem once and for all. I dont even want another set of RFT's. Regular tires would be fine by me if they were quiet....

When I had my second set of dunlop tires installed, I have my dealer do a complete alignment F&R. The odd thing is that my tire appear to be wearing evenly, but the noise and ride are really bad. I have not been able to get my car back to the dealer yet, hopefully next week at the latest.

I would like to hear from Bridgestone RF owners with active steering to see if they too are having issues.

I've now got around 26000 miles on my ORIGINAL brigestone RF tires, and haven't heard any noises, etc. I will need to replace them sometime, but they've been good tires.
