My Ride: 2013 F10 550 - Black Metallic
Default

Hey all... Im looking to buy a set of 172's. I have a 2007 550 sport and I moding to look like the 08 with MTECH and 172 wheels. Im up in the air on the cost though. I have seen resale OEMs for around 1800-2k. Brand new of course is 2700.

But I found these on wheelsandcaps.com

My link

The whole set is like $600. The company says they are made from the same mold as the OEM wheels. Anyone bought these before? Any worry about performance? Last thing I want is fake looking wheels... but I have to say the savings is VERY tempting.

Thoughts and opinions welcome

Mine are 172 replica's, I found a local wheel dealer and went along and had a look for myself. I've had them on my car now for over a year, there's no issues either. My only advise would be get a desent set of spigot rings on. I started to feel a vibration at about 65mph with the ones they fitted with the wheels. I found some aluminum one's on ebay, for 10pounds ($15), fitted them and everythings fine now.
Hope this helps

Don't believe the sales spin about "the same mould",total rubbish!

If you have to go with replicas I offer the following advice:-

1.Avoid buying those with the wrong centre bore which require spigot rings. The centre bore for the E60 is 72.6mm.

2.Try and source a branded wheel with at least a 12 month guarantee .One example is WSP Italy, but I don't know if they are distributed in the USA.

http://www.wspitaly.com/en/

P.S.Your link shows a rear size only, you need 8.5" for the front.

I have used replica wheels on two Mercedes and have never had any problems. I am about to buy another set for my wife's 545i. I have not decided if I want the m5, m6, or 550i replicas.

Does anyone know how big the ride diffrence is between the 18s and 19s is? What about tire cost and wear between the two?

19" tire market is pretty gruesome. Heck 20" tires can be found cheaper at times since even they are more common. I've decided 18's are more practical for when i do upgrade, and i very much like the 172/E60 look.

People have reported that the reps are hard to balance. I would avoid them on something so important. You can pay now or pay later. 2 cents.
