Hi

I have a BMW E60 2004 with the Ref-124 wheels. I need to know if the wheels placed in the back and in the is the same width and are equal, because i have tyres in the back like 275/35R18 and in the front 245/40R18.
Can I put 245/40R18 tyres in the front and in the back?

Thanks a lot

The rear tires are wider than the front.

The OEM Style 124s are staggered wheels.

The front & rear rims (and therefore the tires as well) are different sizes...so the back wheels cannot be rotated to the front...if thats what your asking.

I think a 245 tire may be a little too narrow for the rear. A 255 would fit though.

Rear wheels are wider. Even if you could, why would you? You'd lose grip on the back end, making your car more prone to oversteer. maybe wouldn't matter on a 525 or even 530, but not what you want with a 545.

124's are 8 inches front and 9 rear, with this combo you cannot have the same tires rear and front and maintain the same diameter-so no rotation-so unfort stuck with what is on there give or take 10mm front or back

What does width of the rims have to do with maintaining the same diameter?

As a matter of fact, you CAN place 245/40/18 tires on both front and rear, even though your rear rims are an inch wider than the fronts. They will fit, albeit not the perfect setup. You just can't rotate front to back.

Plenty of people run same sized tires on these staggered wheels for winter setups. C's Bimmer has four 255 winter tires on his M5 166's, with 8.5 and 9.5" rims, F to R.

Yes, you can run 245/40/18's all around on the staggered wheels. That's what I do in the winter with my 18" snow tires.

um ya what do you thnk stretching a 245 tire over a 9.5 inch wheel v. an 8.5 inch wheel will not change the sidewall height and overall diameter? do some reading on tire rack specs or the internet. I had a 265 tire stretched over my 9.5 inch wheel instead of a 275 and was signifigantly shorter sidewall-this was compared to a 245 on the front with an 8.5

Basically you will lose height on the sidewall and it will not only look different than the front but you will feel it in the ride. I could tell my rear was sitting to low with even a 265 stretched instead of a 275

you could get a 245 40 up front and a 245 45 in the rear-then once stretched they will be more likely the same height but than if you are going to put different tires on the rear that makes no sense anyway-

you can do what you want-not my car-good to see a few others just think a tire magically stretches onto a wheel with no change in its characterstics-
