Hello all,
I am considering attending the meet / drive this Saturday. There is a 76 station in Newport Beach that has 100 octane fuel (approx. $5.00 per gallon). I am thinking about running a tank full for the drive. (I need some way to keep up with all of you 545/550 guys) I am wondering what (if any) help this would be for power increase (is it worth the 100.00 + dollars), as well as if the fuel will harm my motor on any way. Any comments would be appreciated.

At Shell in Europe octane is something like 93-97-100 versus our 87-89-93.
No worries except the price (cost $141 to fill up in Germany)

Don's spend that much money for gas for the meet! You'll do just fine with 91. In any case, 100 octance will not hurt your car at all. But, if you feel the need then so be it.
There will be probably be 20 e60s and I somehow doubt that there will be any aggressive driving.![Whistling](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/whistling.gif)
I do think that there will be a few 545s doing some runs against the 550s and yours truely will be bringing along a G Meter to record some 0 - 60 and 1/4 mile times.

If you use octane 100, it'll badly damage your nerve when going back to 91 ![W00t](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/w00t.gif)
We'll have a long caravan, so no need to high power. Even with 87 octane should be good enough
(Don't use octane 87, OK? It's just J/K)

Right on the not =. Also, I have wondered about the question ask, but only because I though I might mix some 100 octane with 91 octane to get about 94 octance--to see if I could get a measurable difference in average performance. I know that I wouldn't let octane boost anywhere near my car, but 100 octane is a horse of a different color. I await the definitive answer to the question--not to dis jiio. ![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)

I'm thinking now that maybe I should also put some 100 octane into my car. Might give me an advantage. I'm hoping none of the 550 owners are reading.

And, I know where to get some in LA!

You'd better be DAMNED SURE that your engine computer can handle it.

PS I believe that stuff is marketed for pre-74 engines that require lead.

Didn't realize that 100 octane would harm my car in any way. I've always heard that putting in a higher grade helps rather than hurts. Is 100 octane an exception?
