It's all relative. My car has a smaller engine, so 10 HP is noticeable. An M5? Not so much.

Or in the definition of the same word:

"A ratio is an expression that compares quantities relative to each other."

True but you missed the whole idea its weight ratio.
10 hp would not be noticeable in either car.
The 530i weighs 3494lbs in Auto
The M5 weights 4012lbs SMG

The cars are so heavy 10hp is barely noticeable.
If you had a motorcycle and add 10hp it would be noticeable.
With the E60 or any other mid size car you have to add 50hp or more to really notice it.

I noticed immediately when I installed my RPI scoops. You will definitely notice the difference but you might get used to it eventually.

I disagree. I just installed an RPI scoop, which provides less than a 10 hp increase, and I certainly can feel it.

My car out of the box had 255hp for 3494lbs and an M5 (which I was referencing for comparative purposes only--insert any model) has over 500 hp (almost double) to account for an extra 518lbs? Cracka please.

The psychology of 10 added hp might be more noticeable than any real gain in acceleration.
