Thanks for great feedback on the car ... plan to be ordering my in late January (also, I hope those hot seats can keep my seat warm when it hits -30c here in Canada)

I actually got the hardwired smartcord and made the little button sneak out over the sunvisor, running it under the elastic strap. I am not sure I like it, but I had already spent the $$$ for the smartcord and was not about to chop it up...

the following is how i hardwired my 8500 in my audi.

i have YET to find a ideal location to mount & install in a manor like the one provided in the link above. i'd like to install it in a little piece, which would not too much if one were to mess up or undo the change.

You need to do a search with hardwire and V1. There was a thread a while back that showed photos to hardwire the V1 into the console containing the reading lights and sunroof controls. The V1 was mounted on the windshield. The above picture appears to show a concealed display module for the Passport.

The Audi hardwire looks clean but the problem is that it's right in the line of sight of a cop if you get pulled over. As soon as a cop sees you have a detector, there's zero chance of a warning...

Answers to various questions from my original post:
I'm not a picture-posting type of guy...
The Passport is just to the left of the rearview mirror. The dealership knew exactly how to hardwire the Passport. Furthermore, they mentioned that they've seen cars come into their shop with battery-related issues and it's b/c people are hardwiring their radar units themselves and not connecting the correct wires and draining their batteries. I leave it in the car unless I'm parked at the airport and traveling.
I have the Dunlop DSST's. They repaired the tire at a cost of $45.00.
