'08 owners. Have you noticed this happening?

I had the door open to check the distance to the edge of my driveway and all of a sudden the car lurched to a stop. Apparently, if you have your door open and you try to reverse the car, it'll engage "Park". You can't reverse the car with the door open.
Is this feature only in the '08 cars?

it's also in the 07.... i beleive every car with the joystick tranny (not the SMG) has this...
i got surprised when i had a X5 4.8 and this happened... i thought i had broken something
