Not to get in the middle of any "rubbish" here but I'll just add that I drove a 2004 545i with Dunlop runflats for about 32K miles (minus any mileage on the snow tires) and have driven my 2008 550i with the Continental non-runflats for about 15K miles (again, minus snow miles) and will say that neither car would fishtail or spin out into curbs, etc. at 30-35 mph in the rain. I agree that cold temperatures will cause either type of tire to lose grip earlier but in almost every case, even in snow, the DSC would intervene and make it very difficult to completely spin out.

Are you sure your DSC system is functioning properly?
My thoughts exactly. Or is it selected off, by mistake?

D'oh!!

I read too fast through your post and the inline quotes.. I thought you were saying that summer tires are no different than regular tires.

Apologies...
No worries, mate.

I believe we gave him all possible explanations:

1. He cannot drive. Means he just does not know what to expect from a RWD car when going around a corner.
2. Cold temperatures that require special attention with HP summer tires, especially in wet
3. Rear tires may be bold
4. He hit a mid-corner bump that RFT tires do not handle well (kind of variation of paragraph 1.)
5. He turned off DSC and is not able to handle a powerful car w/out DSC (another variation of paragraph 1.)

What more a reasonable person can ask for.
Fair enough, we gave him some answers. But my main point remains, that the thread had evolved into a debate over the relative performance of RF vs non-RF tires rather than his issue. As I correctly pointed out, this has NO bearing on the OP as he does not have RF tires on his car, despite your fourth point...

Agreed. The thread could have end here.

The 550's torque can definitely spin the car out on the corner, esp. if the car downshifts in cornering. But, with DSC ON, its almost impossible to spin the car. I had a chance to play with my 550 in wet AND dry on the track AND skid pad under similar conditions, and I was NOT able to spin the car, lol. Heck, my sig pic is a pic of me doing donuts at around 50 mph with DSC+DTC off.

With DSC + DTC ON, there is *no* way this car can spin out.

With DTC OFF, the rear will skip out a few ft before DSC takes control

With DSC + DTC OFF, it WILL cause the rear to come loose.
