Default 08 535xi calibrating tcase

so after replacing my FR axle, im hesitant to drive the car for a couple reasons.

i removed the front prop shaft and broken axle to get the car home. now i found something that says do not move the car with engine power if the front prop shaft is removed. if you do you have to calibrate the tcase. has anyone driven wo the front prop shaft and didnt calibrate the tcase?

are the bolts that hold the front prop shaft one time use? if so, can i put them back in with lock tight until i get new bolts? i also dont have a torq to yield torq wrench. could i jus use regular grade 8 hardware and not do the torq to yield n just get them tight

im also hesitant to drive it because i dont know why the axle came apart. otnwas replaced less than 10k miles ago. suspension is good. no missing motor mount bolts

Hard to follow your repair when you start a new thread for each detail.

sorry. i figured id make it separate because its a separate issue. its not really about the axle and getting the car home, its about calibrating the tcase so i thought i would make it separate but give a little backround as to why it would need to be calibrated, if it does need to be, or if it would be ok to drive/wont cause any problems driving it without calibrating it.

I would calibrate it sometime, sure, but I don't see how you'll run into any trouble. If driving around on roads with a decent amount of friction your xDrive clutches shouldn't be slipping anyway since both axles will be going the same speed. Only time there can be slippage is when friction is different at both axles or if you're gunning it and lighting up the rear wheels. Correct me if wrong, but I believe the transfer case calibrates itself with the built-in resister every time you start the car. The calibration procedure in ISTA is for when you replace the transfer case fluid.

i was looking for the torque specs for the front prop shaft and this is what i found. there's a warning saying not to move the car with engine power with the front prop shaft out or the tcase needs to be calibrated

Excellent find! I guess that gives us the clear, definitive answer that this should be done.

ya i thought it was a good find. especially since before i took the FDS out to drive it home i did a search on it and came across a lot of the e9x guys that took them out for a long time and didnt do anything when they put them back in. i also put a post asking about it and nobody mentioned this.

i almost wish i didnt find it so i could just be done with it and drive it like most people do. but i dont have a cahonas to drive it without calibrating it because the way my luck is, and how everything has gone since my axle came apart, i would be that guy that didnt so the calibration and blow up the tcase lol.

Do you need some help calibrating it? I'm assuming it's just the same procedure I did with ISTA+ when I replaced the tcase fluid a few months ago.
