I test drove the Infiniti and the BMW several times before finally settling on the BMW.

Well, my transition was a bit more extreme but I think you'll be very pleased. The lower ride takes a little to get used to if you've been in an SUV for a while but the performance is well worth it. I made the switch from a GMC Yukon XL, not a Hummer but a real beast...
kscarrol,
Are you happy with the change to the lower rider?

Which Infiniti did you test drive? What were the deciding factors on going with BMW?
I test drove the G and the M. The G I felt was a little too small, probaby since I currently drive a SUV and the M I really liked the technology cockpit features. Actually all the features and the price but after doing some research on what different owners had to say about the Infiniti compared to what owners of BMWs had to say I went with my first choice, BMW. Probably could have gotten the 3 series and been happy but two close friends (both single) have the 3 series one wishing he had gotten the 5 series and the other now thinking about get the SAV. Plus, I wanted something different.

not sure if you meant that you haven't seen it in pics either, but here's the platinum bronze: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=...platinum+bronze
I really like the color in those pics which is totally different than the color swatch in the book and the color when you add it to the 3 series convert and SAV. I'm anxious to see it.

Very!! While there are benefits to being higher up, the handling and sheer fun factor more than outweigh those benefits. I had an Explorer before the Yukon so I had been in an SUV for nearly ten years before switching back to the 545. There is an adjustment period, which for you coming from the Mercedes SUV may not be as bad given its handling vs a GMC, but I will never go back. For the two days every year or so that I may really use the capabilities of the Yukon, I get 363 days of real driving pleasure from my 545. As I have stated in other posts, 99% of SUV's today are glorified station wagons and I still believe that is true.

I never use the capabilites of the SUV as far has putting something in the back other than luggage and/or bags. I actually had the C Class before the SUV, never missed the C Class other than the tighter fit feel of the seats around you versus the openess of the SUV. Now, I ready for a car and after having 2 Mercedes, nothing negative to report, just decided to try the BMW after riding in and driving a couple of my friends. I'm exicited about the color especially if it looks just like the pics (in the link) that NeRwEEzy posted for me. The color swatch in the brochure looks totally diffrent, even the color when you do the build to own 3 series convert and the SAV. Looking forward to taking delivery at the end of the month no later than the begining of Sept.
