Question 06 bmw 550i blue smoke

I have a 06 bmw 550i. I have been having problems with
It. The car has 73000 miles . I have noticed after the car is being driven for about
10 miles i notices bit of smoke when accelerating and when
Its on idle if i give gas a LOT of blue/white smoke comes out of the tail pipes
I went to one mechanic he said the headers needs to be removed
And check out whats the problem he said its about 5000$ For the job
And a new engine. Did any one go through the problem i am experiencing now ?
I also am loosing oil i have to pour in every 2 weeks to keep it on the max level
On the dip stick!

Also what oil shout i use for it

Thanks guys

The only thing I'm leading to is that you have oil escaping via the piston rings thus emitting blue smoke from the tailpipe, the only solution for this is replacing some engine components. You can add any oil that's 5w-40/30 fully synthetic and meets the BMW Long-life rating LL-01.
I'm not a mechanic so I could be wrong on the diagnosis part but I hope the best for you

im sure you wont need an engine for that. blue smoke means burning oil...it could be valve seal, blown headgasket, piston rings, etc. worst case scenario would be overhauling the engine. with this all you would need is the head gasket kit including the valve seals and all the other seals (crank, cam etc) and the piston rings.

Can you provide a sense of how long you have had the car and how long you had been driving it before the engine started to smoke? Blue smoke indicates oil entering the combustion chamber by any number of means as previously stated. I have and 06 550i as well with ~85k miles, no smoke/oil loss yet. I change the oil/filter every 6 months/7500 miles.

I just replaced the valve stem seals on my '04 545i (i.e. V8 engine, same as 550i virtually). My engine has 125k on the clock and the smoking started a long time ago. With new valve stems seals, no more smoke. The task was a real PITA...three solid long full days of work. I used the AGA tool.

My guess is that the OP needs new valve stem seals. The old ones get hard and don't do the job, the new ones are double seals and better.

04-545i with 128k km. I'm having a similar situation now after having just replaced the entire cooling system, tube included and CCV valves/tubing. Also repaired all oil leaks. Now the engine runs so hot, it only smokes when ambient is 30degC plus. I've been temperature mapping the inlet/outlet/thermo/one head and conclude that the cooling system is functional with a 25deg drop average. No smoke when the fan is running, but the fan doesn't turn on when in traffic or after I get off the highway - that's when I get the plume of smoke. Sometimes the head temp reaches 108degC, so I can imagine internally being even hotter. Motul 5W-30 has a flashpoint of 118degC so I think that the CCV system is allowing excessive oil vapors into the intake tract, thus the blue smoke.

Other than high ambient temp days, the engine doesn't smoke at all so I'm lead to believe that the valve guides/seals are functional. I need to investigate 1) why the engine is running hot and 2) if the fan is able to cycle on/off properly and 3) if a non-functional heater valve could be not allowing full cooling system capacity.

Anybody else with high temperature engine operation oil burning problems?
