Just got my 05 e60 updated with the latest idrive software and wondering if i can now swap out my old six disk for a new one that can play mp3 cd's. If so can someone provide me with some details on what models would work in the car and what i would need to get the harnesse to match up correctly? Does it have to be the oem bmw 6 disk or can i got get an alpine/pioneer/etc?

Thanks.

I have a March 08 E61 and have read the forums avidly about this and tried various methods of burning MP3s onto CD. It appears to me that it is still not possible on the E60/61.

I think the MOST is capable of accepting an mp3 capable CD Changer (because that's how the Dension works) However I've yet to see anyone confirm that BMW have started supplying hardware that can read an mp3 disc. The part number of the changer has not changed in a while and that would indicate that its not capable of doing that. Unless this is a software thing - but if it was then they would have done it without having to pre-plan to release the new CD Changers as we saw in the future plan chart a while ago.

Hei All

If you get a CD-Changer from a E87 or E90 models not older than late 2006 ( best a 2007 or newr ) you can mount it at the boot and hook it up on the MUST bus ( LVDS ) in the boot , LVDS terminal is at the back of the weehlhousing in the left side , you can then mount the CD-Changer somewere in the boot.

You can NOT mount 2 CD-Changere !!! ( 1 in the glovecompartment and 1 in the boot ,I have tryed :-) the one in the boot wins the "battel" for the MUST bus signal )

There is severel to get on www.e-bay.de , ( look for " BMW CD wechsler" ) , price betwen 100-200.-Euro + shipment.

Be sure that the CD-Changer got the corret connection ( LVDS ) , there is more that are sold for being for E87-E90 etc. but they isent , so be aware !!!

I have just done so on my E60 from 12/2003 , but you must have software version V25 or newer !!! , can your CD player in the car at this time play MP3 , the MP3 CD-Changer will worke and play CD?s in MP3 mode ( provide that the car is coded for CD-Changer )

With greetings from Denmark

Did they give you a version number for the iDrive software, or is there a way to view the version from the iDrive menu itself? Thanks...
