Hello all,

I have a 05" 545 with about 70k miles on it out of warranty. Sometimes after driving my nav and all inside lights will cut out for a split second and all the warning lights will come on ie: dynamic, abs, tranny (tranny will be stuck in one gear as precaution) seat belt, and speedo will not work), This is starting to happen more, if I turn the car off and give it a minute it will be fine but it is starting to happen more. I am out of warranty and when I took it to the dealership of course they want to charge 150 to even look at it and I know they will say they cannot find anything until something actually stays permanently wrong. Was wondering if anyone had any advise or past experience? Thank you in advance.

Sounds like a battery/alternator issue...

hard to say, because I had this problem, can be alternator or battery, but I had my battery replaced already and the alternator is charging.

I had a brand new battery installed about 20k miles ago so its probably an alternator issue? Can an alternator be tested?

Yes. The easiest way is to start the car... and then disconnect the battery. The alternator should be able to carry the electrical load of the car with out the battery.

Yes that is also true a way with testing the alternator but that is performed for older vehicles with our computer control vehicle its not wise to do that, disconnecting the terminal while the car is on / running, there is a alternator testing to test if its charging while the car is on, it tests the battery the same time. Battery alternator tester.

My SA told me that it can also be the "TcU", I'm not sure about that but a BAD TCU will cause a drain. My battery was replaced at the dealer, its OEM and my alternator was charging, that is what they are suspecting.
