Now I'm curious to what make and model actually has a water cooled alternator... time for some google.
LOL. I never heard of that until i read a post this morning. I've been dealing with BMW for over a decade and never heard of this...of course it could be in the 7 series but i wouldn't know as i haven't messed with any 7 series from 2004 on....

I just replaced the radiator of my 530th with a 80k, but the symptoms do not sound quite the same thing. I had a leak about a very small weld at the bottom of the radiator. No expansion of the coolant on the right to crown every 3-4 months.

hey yeah, it ended up just being a gasket and hose, luckily my friend is a mechanic so he just made me pay for the parts. It was the hose uptop that goes into the front of the engine towards the middle, sorry i couldnt be more specific, as you can tell im a novice when it comes to cars. She runs great now though! time to start working on her

I also have a 2004 545i, everything is fully functioning on the car and it has never let me down until I got a coolant leak on the upper hose(right above the alternator)this hose had a tear on it and did not notice it until I got a message on the I drive telling me coolant level was below minimum and topped it of and in about a week the same message went on and I knew there was a problem. Im trying to look for this hose if anyone knows about a link where I can find this part I would greatly appreciate it. (I would like to get the complete hose from the reservoir tank to the other side of the radiator)

Check www.realoem.com for the part numbers. Then you can order online anywhere that carries it or at the stealership.

Default I have the same issue kind of

Hi all, im new to the group. I have some mechanic skills, bit im lost now.

I have an antifreeze leak bit its not coming from the waterpump. It it xoming from a bolt located just above the top left waterpump bolt . It jist drips out with the engine not running. The water pump works fine. No leaks anywhere else. That bolt is tight, I got a wrench on it. Does anybody know what it could be? Im unable to post a pic , the forum is asking for a url and I dont have a website to link them too.
It's a 545I 2004, any assistance is better than none, good or bad news.
