I purchased a 04' 545/Sport earlier this year. The seats are still killing my back!!! Several people said that I would get use to it or the seat would break in more. Has anyone else on this forum experienced the same pain and come up with a creative way to solve it?

It seems as if people either love or hate the sport seats. On my 2004 car with sport seats, I was fine -- they didn't bother me at all. There are others who've hated them so much that they've gone to the expense of getting rid of the car or retrofitting the comfort seats. Either option can be expensive...

Yes indeed. That was one of the chief reasons to get rid of that sucker.

I'm in the "hate the sports seats" camp - drove with them for 20 minutes once and just found them so uncomfortable. You say you bought an '04 with sports seats, so any "seat breaking in" will have been well and truly done. Infact I guess depending on how much the seats, maybe that have been broken in "too much" but somebody of very different size and shape to you which is making it worse. Unfortunately I've never seen a remedy for it other than swapping the seats out. You never know, maybe somebody on this board in your area has a set of standard seats in your colour in their car and is desperate to swap to the sports seats...? I guess it's worth asking around in the various appropriate forum areas

I love mine. But I can certainly see how they could be a love/hate thing.

I got rid of a 335xi after a week due to the sport seats killing me.....this was in May. I traded it for a 530xi with standard seats. I just got used to these seats about 3 weeks ago! I either found the right spot with the lumbar, or my back finally got used to them. I found that by pumping up only the lower part of the lumbar with no mid-support worked best for me. With the mid part pumped up, it felt like my back was too arched, not to mention it felt like a fist sticking in my back Also, as compared to other cars I've owned that were not BMW's, I sit a lot closer to the steering wheel, which I found takes some of the back strain away...Good luck!

Ouch. I guess it really depends on the build of a person. I find the sports seats very comfortable. I've taken it on long trips with 3 other passengers and no one had a complaint. Are you using the lumber support to help support your lower back more?

Unfortunately my 545 doesn't have lumbar support.

Retrofit some comfort seats (or at least the driver's side) or I guess you need a new car. There really are no other choices unless you are willing to wait it out and see if your back gets used to the current ones. It only took my back about 3 months to accommodate my seat!

Are you sure? I have a 05 545i with sport seats. It has good lumbar support. You adjust it with the round (4 arrows button) on the side of the seat. It also has the leg support.
