Hi all,
I'd like to purchase a trickle battery charger to keep my E39's battery fully charged, since I drive it infrequently.
I'd appreciate any input on what kind of charger to purchase -- I know there is a BMW-branded version, but I'm guessing there are other perhaps better/cheaper alternatives out there.

My Ride: 08 550 Carbon Sport Almost everything factory, but no sound upgrades.
Look at a Vector 2AMP Float Mode charger (VEC800). About $35.
But Black and Decker (BM2 has same unit. $29.88 on Amazon.
Have had mine (B&D) in use for about five months now.
I think the charger offered by BMW parts counter is overpriced. About $60 as I recall.
Do search forum on subject. There is much and recent discussion on the charger use.

Here is one that I've used for about a year now. It charges an Optima battery for a Trans Am. It works great, and keeps the battery in top condition, I highly recommend this minder:
