I've described below what I've done so far to convert my E39 528i Touring Mk1 to Mk4 but there's one problem - I don't have anything on my screen, which was all working fine before. And many thanks to earlier contributors, both here and on other sites, which helped a lot to get me this far.

Can anyone see an obvious mistake or omission. How I can test what I've done? Do I need the anything to be coded?

The 1997 touring with a Mk1 SatNav and TV requires three things - first, the adaptor loom 61126915134, which in the UK is about £40 from BMW. This very easily, and obviously, replaces the Mk1 SatNav loom inside the back wing, thanks to the colour-coded connectors.

You also need a cable that extends the thin signal lead that originally goes to the trimble (GPS unit)- a 2mm o/d coaxial cable commonly used by specialist radio and audio people. It seems to be used for DAB radio aerials and has, so-called, "SMB" connectors. You'll need a 2m length, with a male connector at one end and female at the other. It took a while to work out what I needed but I eventually found "DAB aerial extension cable 2 metre" on ebay for £5 including post - from the seller Sonusaudio (Sonus Wholesale Audio Products), Norwich UK 01603 760867. This is a lot cheaper than using the 2900mm BMW part 61128372410 (£26) that requires fitting all the way from the screen to the DVD SatNav in the back corner of the car.

The trimble (and TV tuner module) are 'hiding' under the false boot floor, immediately behind the rear seat on the touring, and are removed. The trimble is not required any more as it's now in the new SatNav unit. My original (1997) so-called "Low" TV module has to be replaced with a "High" (later) video module, as already described in other postings elsewhere.

The loom and extender cable, plus the Mk IV and High Tuner module, are all that's needed. You don't need to remove the rear seats as I did while looking at the cable options, and you don't even need to remove the trimble or Mk1 loom - for simplicity, or refitting the old system, just leave them in place, but disconnected obviously.

I've just added here what I couldn't find on the web and my thanks to all those that advised on this conversion in previous posts/years.

But, please, why doesn't it work yet?!!

Andy
