I recently bought a 528i ASE that had a repower with a new engine about 120kms ago. The engine was supplied and fitted by the dealer at a cost of $18k to the previous owner. The engine has a knocking sound, when warm, NOT when cold. The sound is noted in the sevice history as "audible knock" and the technician has added "suspect faulty HVAs"

I would like to resolve this problem and plan to DIY whatever the fix is. I have been listening to clips of vanos tick and lifter tick but to me this sounds like a bottom end bearing.

I would appreciate any help.
