So my beloved 1991 E34 525i Sport sits outside for yet another period of time waiting on its owner to have the time to bring her back to her full glory.

There is a couple of small rust spots which need dealing with in the usual '34 places and the paintwork and laquer need some serious time spent on it.

Mechanically she is still very sound not needing too much, maybe some new brake pipes ( big deal ) and a new fuel pipe due to sitting around the last 3 years. Its been regularly started up and she always fires straight away first turn of the key.

It was my first BMW in fact, and the car has a lot of my soul in her, I in fact sold this car to buy my E46, then bought it straight back again a couple of months later, she is a really solid drive, built like a proper BMW of old, absolutely a hoon around the bends with the LSD when the fancy takes you and im loathed to get rid of her.

I will probably never use this car again on the road, so I needed to justify keeping her, on that basis I had decided to make a proper track day car out of her, but every time I look at the car and think where shall I start my heart tells me I can't strip her down in such a barbaric way, especially if you saw the gorgeous mint colour co'ordinated Red and Black leather interior :(

So now I have kind of decided she has to go, but how to let her go remains the mystery.

Being a genuine sport model with a manual box and LSD its at least one of the more sought after models, especially as said the mechanicals are in good order, the engine in fact was rolling roaded before I parked her up at 156bhp at the wheels, which is pretty decent when you consider the age and miles of the car (156k)

So now given the average selling price of the car like this do I spend some money putting an MOT on her to sell, or simply sell as is ?? im not so sure the price difference will as big as one may expect having watched the E34 market for a good while, or do I spend hours more trying to get the body back in shape and then MOT her and try and get the full book price ??

Trouble is the value of these cars, non sport models seem to go for around ?400 to ?1250 depending on spec and condition, Sport models generally between ?600 and ?1500

Is it really worth selling if I could only get ?400 for it for example, no, even with an MOT and the paint etc the way it is I would guess I would only get around ?600/700 if I was lucky ?

If someone can make more sense of this than me then please stand forward :D

In her glory she looked like this............still 99% in the same condition just faded :( (currently still sat on deep dish 5 spokes still)

if you really must get rid of her, sell her to Mike and Ed of Wheel Dealers - they will at least restore her to her former glory and sell her to an owner willing to take good care of her. It's an idea (besides I love that show and would love to see a car I recognize there)
