I too am looking for a used Automatic Transmission for a 1995 525i Wagon (225,000mi on Original). I'm on Cape Cod, MA.
The Model is a GENERAL MOTORS® Hydra-Matic 4L30-E automatic transmission Made for BMW, Cadilac, Isuzu & a bunch of other companies.
There is an Official Rebuild Manual for this ("GM 4L30E 4L30-E ATSG SERVICE OVERHAUL REBUILD MANUAL" $20-$30 on eBay) and a rebuild kit ($200 on eBay) and a 115 page rebuild manual entitled: "GENERAL MOTORS®
Hydra-Matic 4L30-E automatic transmission Assembly Manual by Hans Verhoeven New Zealand 2008". Do a search for this and you'll find a link to the PDF you can download. This was put together by a Dutch Engineer and takes you step by step through the rebuild process, part by part, part number and phtographs. A great read even if you do not do the rebuild. I am trying to get in touch with this guy to send him some money - he put a lot of effort into this.
