Hi. I came across an E12 today which is up for sale. Dont know much about them and would appreciate any inputs. Any issues that I should be aware of. 2nd owner is asking $10k. 112,000 miles with complete service history since '77. Engine rebuilt 2000 miles ago. Just had a major service so nothing to fix according to the owner. Not a real M5 as badge was just added by owner. How much are these cars really. Wanted to make a decent offer. Thank you so much!

Not a real M5. It has a Euro four brake lamp system & new Momo steering wheel. Replaced to 5-speed transmission taken from a 1980 528i from factory 4-speed tranny.

Looks like a fun runabout, a nice classic to get back to the joy of driving in. Not sure if I'd give em $10k, probably somewhere around $7-9k would be more realistic.

I had an E12 ('80 528i) pull the differential mounting bolts THROUGH the trunk. Diff fell onto the ground and took the exhaust off with it. It was pretty awesome.

They make a bracket that an indy welded in for me, and it fixed the issue.

I'd look at the thermostat housing and make sure the bleed screw is operable. I had to replace the fan clutch on mine, no big deal though.

I was a member of First Fives (dot) org and they were awesome.

Here's a photo of my old beaute.

Thanks for the input. Would love to hear what others have to say as I ended up taking it home! Got to take care of the AC system and maybe upgrade to leather seats. Full detailing a must within the next couple of weeks.

4-6,000 tops. it has no collector value whatsoever. just an old undistinguished daily driver bmw sedan. don't, mean to sound rude, just trying to be factual.
