lately ive been noticing the pitting of the windsheild that a 3 yr old car will get from daily driving. ive experienced it before on my rides, easiest way to explain it is many tiny chips in the windsheld from highway dust and debry that youll only see when the sun reflects at a certain angle. wonder if anyone has come up with or knows of a repair for this problem. thanx.

new windshield
For some reason BMW's have soft clear coats and soft windshields...
I think the reason is that the great engineers at BMW thought it would be better if rocks pitted the windshield instead of chipping it.
However that makes for soft glass...
Do you have HUD?

no, why?
Windshields are at the mercy of sand and stuff that erodes the glass over time. Sometimes a thorough cleaning can buy you some time. But I agree, in the summer when the sun is at just the right angle it can be really difficult to see through a sand-blasted windshield.
If someone does invent a windshield repair system they'll make millions. Imagine being able to resurface your windshield for $100 instead of 2-10 times that price to have it replaced. And replacement windshields, done incorrectly bring wind noise, leaks, etc etc.

Do you have a insurance that covers the windshield? I do on all my cars through Geico. I won't tell you what to do beyond this, but you get the idea...

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.

I just recently got a bullseye right above my state inspection sticker on the driver side, sucks...but I got it fixed for free by my insurance company with no deductible or anything (State Farm). Though I don't know about general pitting, have you tried just calling up a window shop and asking them if they could do anything?
