I have an '06 530xi and I am receiving a warning message that the anti-trap function is turned off. The drivers's side rear window is not working in the auto mode now. Can this be reset without taking it back to the dealer?

Yes, lower the driver's side rear window from the control panel in driver's door and then when it's lowered, close the window with manual mode (not auto) - just hold the button on the first stage until the windows has completely raised, then hold the button for a little after that (it may also be needed to press the second stage of the button when the window is up) and then release the button and now the error should disappear and windows should work in auto mode. That's what I fixed the problem when I had the same message.

Allar

Thanks for your attempt to help me with this problem. It did not work, so I took the car back to the dealer. They tried three times to re-initialize the system and it still would not clear. They then had to reinstall some software. As before, this led to the bluetooth phone link not working. Although on this occasion I managed to get it to link up after turning the car off several times.

John

If these cars did not handle and ride as well as they do no one would buy them. That is the bottom line. Imagine if you had these same problems in a GM or Ford, BMW would be going bankrupt too. But as long as the dealer fixes it, I will continue to enjoy my car.
Good luck with your car.

you actually let everything slide on cars like corolla and taurus etc. When it comes to BMW, MB, LEXUS , AUDI etc, we bitch about it more. But I really think for such an advanced car, a lot of things should be self learnt .
