So I spent the better part of last week sanding, filling, taping, painting, and clear coating some curb rashes on my 166s. Following a DIY I found - which said Wurth's silver paint "is what all German automakers use" for a perfect match, I found out that it isn't perfect. Actually, lots of flakes/specks in the paint that looks like it would have matched a different/earlier wheel, but not the 166s (or stock 172 for that matter) silver, which is flat. So now I have a couple of wheels with pretty obvious non-matched color.

Anyone know what brand/color of paint to get for 166 wheels?

I know, I know, I should have checked to see that the pain matched perfectly or at least well. But it's pretty noticeably different. I'd like to redo this, but I can't seem to find what is the right paint. Some have suggested Einszett or even Duplicolor paint would match better, but thought I'd check here first.

interesting... and sorry to hear of the problems. I need to know this as well. Did you buy a repair kit or just the paint? I'm looking around for a repair kit but I need some recommendation, anyone? Thanks and good luck

i think the color is called hyper-silver.
your best best may be to just find a local wheel repair outfit who can touch it up. usually you cant just paint a small part, you have to spray a large section to blend the paint in. and from what i was told, the paint on 166 wheels is very expensive.

^^ The "glossy metallic silver" part sounds about right, but where did you find this info? Is it available with a repair kit? Did you see/use this for a repair personally? Thanks

I bought the silver wheel paint and clear lacquer (both Wurth's) from Pelican Part, and got some spot putty and sandpaper from a HW store (I used 200 and 400 grit). Plus paint thinner. And I taped up/papered over all other areas of the wheel of course. Total cost about $50.

Also, BavAuto has a kit you can buy but I don't know if the paint matches:
