I fitted an Origin b2 speed camera detector into fuse 48 (I hope) by using a add a circuit fuse tap. Followed the instructions to test by not installing the original 5A fuse in slot A of the fuse tap, but only the new 2A fuse in slot b. Ignition on and....sorted - power to the origin b2. Tested. Check!

Then put the fuse 48 original 5A back into slot A of the fuse tap. Ignition on, lovely job, iDrive screen on and radio and origin b2. All ok. Lovely. Job done! Then bong iDrive error "passenger restraint system error".

Took fuse tap out to how it was, original 5A fuse back in on its own. Ignition on, error still present.

Hoping it would go away but no such luck.

Car is a 2011 nov build F11 520d Touring. Only had the car a month.

Any ideas? Thanks.

You basically tripped the SRS monitoring module with voltage fluctuations in the circuit. Once it's tripped, only the dealership can reset the code in the airbag module.

Thanks

Ok. Trip to local dealer and error cleared (so far). They said the error only showed once and reset it an did "a full vehicle check" also. All done in less than an hour and nearly £45 later the error is gone. They said fitters sometimes remove the side panel with the passenger air bag key switch in it to help with the fitting. I replied, yes the fitter must have done that as I saw it on the floor (ehhhmmm. That was my mistake then - to remove that panel)!

Doh!
