I like a good picture thread.

nice write up

why didn't you just pull the headlights out? you could of had two beers by the time you taped all that off. oh wait your 16....
Trust me taping is easier if you have never removed the headlights.

I just did this the other day, I went from 600 - 800 - 1000 - 3000 - Wool pad (with Meguiars PlastX) -Foam polish pad (with Meguiars PlastX) - Foam finishing pad- (with Meguiars PlastX).
Results came out great!

BTW, did you use a sealant? Unless you want your headlights to yellow, you need to seal them with a good quality spray sealant

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.

Good job.

I did this as well, but with the Wolfgang kid from Autogeek. I used IIRC, 1000 grit -> 1500 grit -> orange pad with WF plastic polish -> black pad with WG plastic glaze -> by hand applied WG plastic sealant.

It turned out fairly well, but my driver side headlight has some serious scratching around the eyebrow and some weird, almost melted looking plastic in the middle. The passenger side turned out flawless though!

Krozi: Where did you get your sealant? I will definitely need to get some of that! Thanks for the advice and all the kind words

I but a whole head light restoration kit from a buddy of mine who does professional detailing, I have no clue what brand the sealant was... Sorry.

Try looking up some sealants from reputable companies that have a good rep

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.

Looks great!

I recent did the same, but went with the 1500 & 2000 grit sand paper route. Used a few different compounds and a Porter cable 7424 heavy duty buffer to finish it off. Initially I found the write up how to do it on this forum -found the same products and went forth with the work. My write up is here: https://5series.net/forums/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=975863

Here are the products used for anyone interested:

Do you have any sealants right now that you use? If you do, most likely you can use it on your headlights. Make sure it's a sealant, NOT a wax.
