I know that the knob needs to be pull in order to take it off, but, do I need to put the car in neutral, do I have to press the lock buttom while pulling?

Regards,
Enrique

just bought a new shift knob as well for the car, from Bavarian auto, just pull straight up, it takes alittle force and seems like you pullin too hard thats when it slips off.. good luck post pic of the new shifter

wear gloves and open your sunroof if you have it.
You won't be the first and certainly not the last who damages his knuckles on the roof liner.

You need to press the lock button in and hold whilst pulling the gear knob upwards.

I got my old one out and new one in within a minute. Didn't smack my nose or hurt my knuckle. All I did was put the shifter in neutral, wiggled the knob a little, and out it came. Pretty easy, but I have to says thanks to all the tips from you guys.
