Default Sirius Satellite Radio Delete

Since my Sirius unit decided to stop working, I decided I wanted to permanently delete/remove my unit. I've long suspected it for being responsible for "waking" the car when it should be in "sleep" mode. Since it runs every time the car is awoken, removing it should eliminate some battery drain. Also, since I have the iPod option in the glove box and I don't drive a whole lot, I have little use for Sirius.

Step 1: In the trunk, remove the rear driver's side panel in front of the taillight. If you don't know what this is, it's the mirror image panel as the passenger side one over the battery.

Step 2: Use an 8mm socket to remove the three bolts holding the Sirius bracket to the vehicle.

Step 3: Unplug the antenna connector (two wires). This seemed to just pull right out

Step 4: Unplug the MOST/power connector. Doing so will mean there is a break in the MOST fiber optic system, thus allowing anything after Sirius in the system to not function, which for me includes the iPod connector, which takes us to:

Step 5: Remove the power connector from the side of the MOST/power harness. There is a small clip on the side, and the power connector slides out the side of the harness, not the rear as you might think.

Step 6: Remove the MOST connector housing from the MOST/power harness. This pulls out the rear of the harness.

Step 7: Remove the MOST cables from the MOST connector housing and reinstall the MOST cables into the new MOST connector housing (Part #61136917978)

Step 8: Install the MOST connector housing and cables into the fiber optic loop (or Fiber Optic System Jumper as it's also known) (Part #61136917541)

Step 9: Tuck cables away and reinstall trim. You're done!

Once the unit is uninstalled, the "SAT" option in iDrive should be grayed out and non-selectable. Using the steering wheel button to advance the input type should skip right over SAT from AM to CD.

This is an old thread but I want to comment so I can refer back to it. My SAT module died and I need to bypass it so this post is very helpful.

Why don't you just get one form out of the junk yard or on eBay if you actually use it.

I'll do that eventually. I ordered a bypass loop that will be in tomorrow...i'm tired of driving around without any audio whatsoever. I'd have to wait a week or more to get a replacement module off of ebay...and then I have to hope that the used part actually works.
