Shifter knob replacement

The "metal" on my shifter knob is starting to get pitted and peel a little, is it a big deal to replace these things? Since its got the release switch in the middle, I know some cars make it hard to replace, some even requiring a whole new shifter grr.

Hmm, after using search a bit more, it seems this is simply a "pull as hard as you can and dont knock your teeth out" removal. Those darn "selector knobs" are expensive as hell too hehe, $107 just from realoem!

I didnt see any cable hook ups on their diagram though, how does that button function?
