Default "Scratched" CIC display / screen

The CIC display was used on the E60 LCI after 09/2009. Unfortunately, the clear plastic screen in front of the display was also discontinued. This exposes the CIC display anti-glare coating to physical damage and / or harsh cleaning methods and chemicals. What appears to be scratches are most likely damaged anti-glare coating. Replacing the screen is either a $1600 BMW assembly, or a $400 screen swap DIY.

Alternatively, one could polish off the entire anti-glare coating to return the display to a uniform appearance. This was what I did.

I used the NOVUS 7136 Plastic Polish Kit - 2 oz, purchased from Amazon.com. If the absence of the anti-glare coating is an issue, one could use generic anti-glare screen protector film for tablets cut to size. Be sure to test with polarized sunglasses regarding the orientation of the anti-glare film.

Credit for this solution goes to the thread at E90Post.com "HELP: Scratched iDrive Anti-Glar Coating (with photos)" and MBWorld.org "DIY: Removing scratches from COMAND screen".

Worked great for me as well. I'll post some pictures later today.
