Hi, I already posted something similar to this in another topic, but maybe it was not in the right one. So here it is :

Is it possible to convert from idx and url to asc, so we can add pois to the existing ones?

eg. add more restaurants to the database, by editing the restaurands db..

thanks..

This is very very simple to acheive from just URL file. Just reverse calculate all the lats and longs from the URL add your new entries and then re create a new IDX file.

So basically just take each value in the URL file and divide them by 11930464.71 and that will give you your lat and long. Trim out the unwanted decimal places (6 should be more than enough). That way you can recreate your ASC file. Add your entries into this new ASC file and then use whatever method you are using to create your URL and IDX files. You wont need the original IDX file.

You do not edit the URL file you use it as an input into a script. You can use any scripting language to acheive what you want to do or even use simple Excel.

If doing it in Excel you simply open the URL file in Excel, Delete the first two lines, then delimit each line on the comma, then delimit the second column on remaining width of the long number. That should give you the lat, long and description in three different columns. Divide the lat and long values by 11930464.71 and re-assemble the file back together as an ASC file which is comma delimited.

so, the final conversion file should have the lat and long separated by comma, and the last columm is the description? and the tel number?
I saw that some names on the description are binded, like " TheRestaurant .." ..

I am not much familiar with scripts. can you tell me one easy to learn and do this job? in excel, when I open the url file, it dont open, so I renamed the url file from name.url to name.txt, and ion excel I open and it asks about delimitation and some others things about importing.

and there are files that are so big like the restaurants file.. it really would be better a script.
